My African Host Dad

It’s hard to explain the impact Bongani Dlamini and his family have had on my life. Rachael C. Capua and I both stayed with his family in Mbabane, Eswatini two years apart on Fort Worth Sister Cities International exchanges before we really knew each other.

Having had the same African host family was instrumental to us becoming friends.

And when we got married, Bongani and his wife officiated our wedding.

There are similar, countless stories of friendship with Sister Cities International roots. It was wonderful to see him in Austin this morning.
